Safe Water Infrastructure for Community Hub

Buenos Aires, Argentina
2023
Impact: 2,000 people

Project Type: Water Infrastructure and Empowerment
Local Partner: GRACIAS Foundation
Funded by: Betterfly and Urban Hydration

WATERisLIFE launched its first project in Argentina to address the urgent water needs of the Moreno district in Buenos Aires, where more than 60% of residents lack access to safe drinking water through the public system.

The intervention focused on CDI Horneritos and Comedor de Marta, a dynamic community space that provides education, sports, and rehabilitation programs—but previously lacked access to safe water. In partnership with the GRACIAS Foundation, WATERisLIFE funded the installation of a high-capacity 800 GPD reverse osmosis system and an automatic chlorine doser (PUL-CP 1″). The GRACIAS Foundation assumed responsibility for the long-term maintenance and operation of the system, ensuring sustained access to safe water for the surrounding community.

Water From Air for Pernambuco

Poço da Cruz, Pernambuco, Brazil
2023
Impact: 500 people

Project Type: Water Infrastructure and Empowerment

Funded by: Amazon Web Services (AWS)

In Pernambuco—one of Brazil’s driest regions—WATERisLIFE introduced an innovative solution using Atmospheric Water Generation (AWG) technology. In partnership with WaterGen, a global leader in air-to-water systems, a unit was installed to extract drinking water directly from the air.

Following weeks of testing and community engagement, the system became fully operational, providing safe drinking water to approximately 500 people. This marked WATERisLIFE’s first AWG project, combining innovation with long-term sustainability. The Brazil team continues to provide training, monitoring, and support to ensure the community can manage and maintain the system effectively.

This initiative stands as a model for climate-adaptive technology and resilient community water access.

Community Water Access Project – Mathare

Mathare, Nairobi, Kenya
2024
Impact: 15,000 people

Project Type: Water Infrastructure and Empowerment

Local Partner: Mathare Community Leaders

Funded by: BottleN30

WATERisLIFE implemented a transformative water project in Mathare, one of Nairobi’s oldest informal settlements. The initiative was part of the Gratitude Trips program, inspired by a fundraising event in New York led by Corina Weikl, CEO of BottleN30 and member of the WATERisLIFE board.

Before the project, residents had water access only two days a week. Through the installation of solar panels and a high-capacity water pump, daily access was achieved—dramatically improving living conditions. Although the water remained non-potable, the next phase included installing filtration technology.

Plans to implement the black box filtration system were paused following community feedback opposing water sales. WATERisLIFE responded by opening dialogue and shifting focus to community-led management, particularly through the training of local women leaders. Trust-building and inclusive governance remained key pillars in moving forward.
